HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE "LOST IN LEXICON" BOOK REVIEW & GIVEAWAY (*CLOSED*)

When Aunt Adelaide sends thirteen-year-old cousins Ivan and Daphne on a treasure hunt in the rain, they never expect to stumble into a whole new world--an enchanting land where words and numbers run wild. They are surprised again when the first people they meet beg them to find Lexicon's missing children, who have wandered off, bewitched by lights in the sky.

Trekking between villages in search of clues, the cousins encounter a plague of punctuation, a curious creature, a fog of forgetting, the Mistress of Metaphor, a panel of poets, and the illogical mathematicians of Irrationality. But when a careless Mathemystical reflects them across the border into the ominous Land of Night, their peril deepens.

Kidnapped, imprisoned, and mesmerized--with time running out--will Daphne and Ivan find a way to solve the mystery of lights in the sky and restore the lost children of Lexicon to their homes?

Lost in Lexicon: An Adventure in Words and Numbers tells their tale and what a great fantasy adventure it is. Autor Pendred Noyce targets readers 9 to 12 years old with this book but don't let that fool you - It's all about the journey 70 year old adults and 7 year old children all would love it. It is fun, humorous, and full of adventure and intrigue with one colorful character after another.
If you have a 9 to 12 year old reader in your life that always has a book in their hands they will love Lost in Lexicon: An Adventure in Words and Numbers. It takes them on a great fantasy adventure with 13 year old cousins Daphne and Ivan through the wonderful world of Lexicon. The writing is very good with lots of subtle (and not so subtle) humor thoughout. The math and word challenges throughout are all a part of the grand adventure. Don't stop there... head to the website for an amazing and fun journey through the Land of Lexicon! The website has lots of great materials, games and activities that relate to the book. Make sure you read this amazing book it will soon be a family favorite! :)

Meet the Characters:
Ivan - Cautious, responsible, and yet adventurous, Ivan loves video games and is uncomfortable with writing.
Mistress - Determined and opinionated, she's ready to set up her pot and mix metaphors wherever they're needed.
Poetry Master - Small and precise, the Poetry Master heads the ruling council of Merry Measure.
Emily - A thesaurus, she is soft, shy, and loyal. She likes to hear and reflect new words.
Adelaide - A former children's librarian, she has definite ideas about the evils of technology and the importance of reading and creativity.
Daphne - Impulsive, soft-hearted, and determined, Daphne loves TV, poetry, and animals. She's nervous around math.

The Author Pendred Noyce - When I was a child, I wanted more than anything to go to C.S. Lewis's land of Narnia. My sister and I probed dark closets, leaped over rivers, and ran down hills with our eyes closed, calling on Aslan to transport us to that magicl world.
Did we reach Narnia? I can tell you: Magic swears its users to secrecy. But we did find that the quickest route to a magical land passes through books and imagination.
I wrote Lost in Lexicon for my son, to challenge and entertain him. A number of editors rejected the book as too brainy or too full of puzzling language and math.
The Artist Joan Charles - I grew up in a big family, in a house very much like Aunt Adelaide's--filled with books, games, and imagination. As a child I read, put on puppet shows, wrote and illustrated a family newspaper, and played endless games of Parcheesi with my sisters on rainy summer days. My favorite thing to do was draw and make up stories, and that's still true today. I love adventure, mysteries and puzzles, so it was great fun to illustrate "Lost in Lexicon" and help bring Daphne and Ivan to life.
Visit Lost in Lexicon website to play games and activities, Meet the Characters, Learn about the Author and buy the book for $9.95 plus $3.95 shipping and handling. You and your kids will definitely love this book. It's a family favorite!!! :)
